🇺🇸 - Big day yesterday as I had to do a fix to the boat McGyver style. The compartment attached to the my cabin was flooded and I needed to drain it in case I needed to access what is in the compartment in the future. We have been waiting to do this work on a day with calm weather and the day was yesterday!
Working with my land support team we decided to a-fix a drain made from the screw top of my one of my squeeze applesauce containers. I fixed the drain to the wall with waterproof glue and its been drying for the past 3 days. I needed to drill through the inside of the drain through the fiberglass wall for the water to come out. Tools: bucket, drill, sponge, pee bottle, tape.
There was the potential that the drain that I made would fail so I carved a plug that I added waterproof glue, a small stick and a piece of bike inner-tube in case I needed to plug the hole again. Luckily the drain worked great!! I was able to drain about 2 gallons of water from the compartment. The next steps is to check how quickly the compartment refills. Hoping that is very slowly.
Yesterday had some rain - it was great as my solar panels have been cleaned from the dry salt. No wind yesterday so means beautiful, but slow sea.
Today is cooler outside so back to my suspender pants and coat. Wind picking up over the next 3 days in the right direction. Current as well. Great news!
🇫🇷 - Grosse journée hier en mode Mc Gyver avec une réparation épique !
Le compartiment étanche qui donne sur l'arrière de ma cabine est inondé depuis plusieurs jours, et je devais trouver une solution pour le vider au cas où j'aurais besoin d'accéder à ce qu'il contient.
En collaboration avec mon équipe de soutien à terre, nous avions décidé d'attendre une journée calme pour faire cette réparation, et c'était hier !
Pour pouvoir vider le compartiment étanche, il m'a fallu fabriqué un système de drain en utilisant le tube et le bouchon à vis d'une dosette de compote de pommes à boire !
Je l'ai d'abord fixé au mur avec de la colle imperméable et l'ai laissé sècher pendant 3 jours. Puis j'ai percé la cloison en fibre de verre du compartiment étanche au travers de ce drain pour que l'eau sorte.
>> Outils : seau, perceuse, éponge, bouteille, ruban adhésif.
Au cas où le drain ne tiendrait pas je m'étais préparé un bouchon de sécurité avec des morceaux de bois et de chambre à air de vélo pour reboucher le trou. Heureusement, le système de drain fonctionne très bien !!
J'ai pu vidanger environ 7 litres d'eau du compartiment. Les prochaines étapes consistent à vérifier la rapidité avec laquelle le compartiment se remplit. En espérant que ce soit très lentement.
Hier, il a plu - c'était super car mes panneaux solaires avaient besoin d'un bon rinçage. Pas de vent hier, donc mer belle mais progression lente !
Aujourd'hui, il fait plus frais dehors, j'ai ressorti ma salopette et ma veste. Le vent devrait se lever dans les 3 prochains jours dans la bonne direction, avec du courant aussi. Bonnes nouvelles !
