🇫🇷 Jour 1 !
C'est ce 23 décembre à 9h05 dans le port de La Restinga (El Hierro - Îles Canaries) que Cyril a largué les amarres de son Kayak océanique "Valentine".
La fenêtre météo proposée par Michel Meulnet, le routeur de l'expédition, présentait de bonnes conditions pour une première journée, avec un vent bien orienté, des vagues d'1 mètre, et un ciel légèrement couvert.
Et c'est sous les encouragements de son "frère de rames", Gwenaël Breton, que Cyril à franchi, avec l'attitude de détermination qui le caractérise bien, l'embouchure du port direction Sud-Ouest... la Martinique !
La journée s'est bien déroulée, Cyril accélérant au fur et à mesure qu'il se dégageait de la protection de l'île d'El Hierro, atteignant dans la journée une vitesse régulière de 3 nœuds, pour atteindre vers 19h un total de 29 miles parcourus.
Fin de journée de rame avec la tombée du jour, et installation pour la nuit avec une dérive liée au vent et aux courants d'une vitesse légèrement inférieure à 1 nœuds grâce - heureusement dans le bon sens !

🇺🇸 Day 1!
December 23rd at 9:05 am in the port of La Restinga (El Hierro - Canary Islands) that Cyril cast off from his ocean kayak “Valentine”.
The weather window proposed by Michel Meulnet, the expedition's router, presented good conditions for a first day, with a well-directed wind, 1-meter waves and a slightly overcast sky.
And it was under the encouragement of his “rowing brother”, Gwenaël Breton, that Cyril crossed the mouth of the harbour, heading south-west... to Martinique!
The day went smoothly, with Cyril accelerating the further he got away from the protection of the island of El Hierro, reaching a steady speed of 3 knots during the day, to reach a total of 29 miles covered by 7pm.
The day's rowing came to an end as dusk fell, and we settled in for the night, drifting with the wind and currents at a speed of just under 1 knot - fortunately in the right direction!
